News Report:
Taylor Swift is set to make her return to the stage at London’s Wembley Stadium on Thursday, after a terror plot targeting one of her shows in Vienna was thwarted by the Austrian police. Three of her Eras Tour concerts in Vienna had to be canceled due to the threat.
The pop star’s last performance was in Warsaw, Poland, in early August before she was supposed to kick off a three-show stop in Vienna. Three teenagers have been detained in connection with the investigation and are suspected of plotting a suicide attack.
Austrian authorities found a stockpile of chemicals, explosive devices, detonators, and counterfeit cash at the home of the main suspect, a 19-year-old ISIS sympathizer who had been radicalized online.
Despite the cancelations and the terror threat, Swift has not publicly commented on the situation. The first of her five shows at Wembley Stadium is scheduled to start at 4:55 pm GMT.
Paramore will be opening for Swift at all the shows, with different supporting opening acts each night. Security measures at Wembley Stadium and in London have been publicly outlined to ensure the safety of concertgoers.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan emphasized the city’s experience in policing such events and the importance of learning from past tragedies like the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. The Metropolitan Police assured that there is no indication the Austrian investigation will impact upcoming events in London.
Wembley Stadium also stated that they will work closely with authorities to ensure the highest security standards are met for the concerts. They also made it clear that people without tickets will not be allowed to gather outside the venue, in an effort to maintain safety protocols.
