In a recent interview with CNN, Kevin Costner clarified that his new film, the first part of “Horizon: An American Saga,” is not three hours long, but rather two hours and fifty-one minutes. Costner, who co-wrote, produced, directed, and co-stars in the epic western set around the time of the American Civil War, emphasized that he makes movies to keep audiences engaged and entertained.
The ambitious project includes four planned films, with the first chapter set to be released on June 28 and the second in theaters on August 16. Costner is currently filming the third movie, which he described as “incredibly dynamic.”
Known for his love of westerns, Costner explained the appeal of such settings, citing the inherent drama of the clash between settlers and indigenous people during the westward expansion. He also highlighted the importance of understanding history and empathy in uniting a divided culture.
“Horizon: An American Saga” features a star-studded cast including Abbey Lee, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Luke Wilson, and more. Costner, who also takes on the role of cowboy Hayes Ellison in the film, revealed that his personal connection to the character played a significant role in his decision to portray him on screen.
The film, distributed by Warner Bros., is set to debut in theaters on June 28, offering audiences a thought-provoking look at a pivotal time in American history.
