In a recent trailer for their upcoming album titled “The Great Impersonator,” Halsey reflects on how their musical debut might have been different in another decade. The singer, who uses the pronouns she/they, described the album as a “confessional concept album.”
The trailer, shared on Halsey’s social media pages, shows the artist in a recording studio before traveling through different decades and channeling styles reminiscent of artists like Britney Spears, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, and Stevie Nicks.
“I really thought this album might be the last one I ever made,” Halsey says in the clip. “When you get sick like that, you start thinking about all the ways it could’ve been different. What if this isn’t how it all went down? Am I still Halsey every time?” they ask.
Halsey opened up about their health struggles in June, revealing that they were diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder two years ago. Despite the challenges, they expressed gratitude for being alive and shared their determination for a fresh start at 30.
“At 30 I’m having a rebirth and I’m not going to be sick,” Halsey said in a video posted on Instagram. “I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and I’m just going to get to redo my 20s in my 30s.”
“The Great Impersonator” is set to be released later this year.
