Martinez Pushes for Man Utd Move as Onana Fights to Stay; Antony Willing to Take Pay Cut for Betis Transfer

The ongoing transfer saga in the world of football is rife with speculation and potential player movements that could dramatically alter the landscape of various clubs in the Premier League. In particular, the pursuit of high-profile players like Emi Martinez and the shifts in commitment from Andre Onana are topics heating up as summer approaches.

Starting with the situation at Manchester United, it appears that the ambitious Argentine goalkeeper Emi Martinez, currently with Aston Villa, is eager for a switch to Old Trafford. Reports indicate that Martinez, a World Cup winner, is keen to reinforce United’s goalkeeping options. However, his aspirations may be complicated by the current resolve of Andre Onana, United’s No. 1 keeper, who has shown staunch determination to remain with the club despite receiving interest from clubs like Monaco and various teams in Saudi Arabia. Onana is reportedly focused on solidifying his position at United, effectively making it challenging for Martinez to realize his ambitions. The keeper’s steadfastness is underscored by recent communications from potential suitors, indicating a robust desire to establish himself as a central figure in Manchester.

Meanwhile, another notable player, Antony, currently on loan at Real Betis, is contemplating the future of his career. The Brazilian winger, after an impressive stint with the Spanish side, is seemingly ready to make a permanent switch if conditions align favorably. The Mirror has reported that Antony is prepared to take a significant pay cut—up to 30%—to facilitate this move away from Old Trafford. Presently, the ex-Ajax player earns a hefty £150,000-a-week with Manchester United but is open to a revised salary of about £95,000. This decision is not just altruistic; it comes against the backdrop of United’s need to generate a minimum fee of £32.58 million to adhere to profit and sustainability regulations, especially following their hefty £85 million investment in him just the previous year.

In contrast, Everton faces uncertainty regarding their striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin. With his contract nearing its expiration, discussions for a new deal have been ongoing but have yet to yield fruitful results. The Athletic implies that the likelihood of Calvert-Lewin remaining with Everton is dwindling, as both parties have found it challenging to agree on terms. Given the distraction of negotiations, it’s been inferred that Everton is actively scouting for a replacement, with young striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal emerging as a prime candidate. Yet, Barry’s participation in the Under-21 European Championship with France, coupled with a substantial release clause of €40 million, complicates matters. Everton appear to prefer negotiating a transfer with Villarreal directly instead of activating the release clause.

Adding another layer to the transfer web, Chelsea’s interest in defender Marc Guehi is noteworthy. The Blues may not directly re-sign Guehi from Crystal Palace, but they stand to benefit significantly if he moves to Liverpool, especially due to a sell-on clause from the initial transfer. Reports suggest Chelsea could pocket over £8 million in this scenario if Liverpool tables a bid in the region of £40 million. This potential financial boost would be crucial for Chelsea as they maneuver to comply with the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability rules. Liverpool is currently looking for a replacement for Jarell Quansah, who is on the brink of a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen, and Guehi fits the bill perfectly.

Overall, the summer transfer window is shaping up to be an eventful one, filled with intricate dynamics and negotiations that could redefine team rosters across the Premier League. Clubs are not just considering player performance and fit but also the significant financial implications of these dealings as they strive to maintain adherence to evolving rules in professional football.
