Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are embracing their unique bond as if they are truly “married under the eyes of God.”
This revelation came during a recent episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, where Ryder shared insights into her ongoing friendship with Reeves. “We always say who it is, even though it says it on the text,” Ryder noted about their regular communication.
On special occasions, such as Reeves’ birthday, their affectionate exchanges reflect their close relationship. Ryder recounted, “So like on his birthday I go, ‘Happy birthday, my husband’ and then he’s like, ‘Hey, my wife, I love you KR 57.’ Like on each birthday he’s like KR 57 or whatever his age is. He’s always done that.”
The duo first appeared together in the 1992 film “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which featured a wedding scene between their characters. In a 2018 interview promoting their romantic comedy “Destination Wedding,” Ryder brought up an intriguing notion regarding their on-screen relationship, claiming that they may have actually tied the knot.
“In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest,” Ryder explained during the interview. “We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”
Reeves later commented on the topic during a video for Esquire three years later. “We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests,” he said. “Winona says we are [married]. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married… under the eyes of God.”
In the latest podcast episode, Ryder expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Reeves but was hesitant about participating in a “John Wick” action film due to the physical demands of stunts, remarking, “I’m thinking of my bones.”
Despite this, Ryder conveyed her deep admiration for Reeves, stating, “I would literally do anything though with him. He is so special.”
